What Is Gulf Coast Mensa?

Gulf Coast Mensa is the Greater Houston/Texas Gulf Coast area chapter of American Mensa, Ltd.   We are a Local Group of Region 6 (the southwest region of the US), and encompass southeast Texas, extending from Huntsville in the north to Goliad in the south and over to the Louisiana state line in the east. Founded in 1965 and boasting over 1100 members, Gulf Coast Mensa is the sixth largest local chapter in the country.

Mensa, the High IQ Society, is an international organization whose only membership requirement is a score in the top two percent of the general population on a standardized intelligence test. Mensa currently has over 100,000 members in over 100 countries, organized into 41 national groups. In Mensa, members can meet other stimulating members, join one of the over 150 special interest groups, and attend local, national, and international events.  Mensa encourages and supports programs for gifted children, sponsors research into the nature of intelligence and awards thousands of dollars in scholarships each year.

How Do I Join Mensa?

Did you know that in the U.S. alone, more than six million people qualify for membership? That's actually one person in every 50. Unfortunately, most don't realize that they qualify and haven't even considered membership. If you are considering joining Mensa, there are two ways to become a member. You can either sit for the Mensa Admissions Test (if you are 14 years of age or older) or you can submit prior evidence from nearly 200 tests like the Stanford Binet, the Miller Analogies Test or the GMAT.

If you are interested in taking the Mensa Admissions test, check out our testing schedule or contact our Testing Coordinator This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. Elizabeth Meadows with any questions!

Have A Gifted Child?

Are you a parent of a gifted child? Are you considering membership for your child or have you been advised to seek membership, but you don't know where to start? Well you're in the right place! First, visit our Testing Page to get all the information you'll need about getting your child into Mensa and if you have any questions don't hesitate to contact our testing coordinator Elizabeth Meadows. Once you're in, the GCM Gifted Youth Coordinator, John Fahy, is your resource for all things gifted.

If you or your child are already a member of Mensa, head over to the GCM Kids Facebook Group. Please note we verify current membership via American Mensa's online member directory for American Mensa members. Before requesting to join this group, please make sure you or your child are a current member of Mensa. Also, many people use a different name on Facebook than the one registered with Mensa, so it is essential to allow the administrators to be able to 'Message' if they need to ask for additional information. If you don't seem to get a response from an Admin by 3 days, please check your Other folder under Messages.
