| Good afternoon. Welcome to the Gulf Coast Mensa web site!
Gulf Coast Mensa (GCM) is a chapter of American Mensa. We are a Local Group of Region 6 (the southwest region of the US). GCM encompasses southeast Texas, including Houston, and consists of over 1,000 members. We sponsor Special Interest Groups (SIGs), speaker meetings, game nights, parties and other intellectual and social events.
Mensa, the High IQ Society, is an international organization whose only membership requirement is a score in the top two percent of the general population on a standardized intelligence test. It was founded in Great Britain in 1946. Mensa currently boasts about 100,000 members in over 100 countries, organized into 41 national groups.
In Mensa, members can meet other stimulating members, join one of the over 150 special interest groups, and attend local, national, and international events. Mensa encourages and supports programs for gifted children, sponsors research into the nature of intelligence and awards thousands of dollars in scholarships each year.

It is with great sadness that we share news of the death of former Mensa Chairman Darlene Criss.
Darlene was a member of Mensa for more than 30 years. She was committed to Mensa and held nearly every office within the organization including LocSec, Editor, Proctor, Regional Vice Chairman, Secretary, First Vice Chairman and Chairman. She was editor of the Isolated M newsletter for 12 years, editor of the Mensa Bulletin for 2 years and served on many committees including Hearings, Name and Logo, Nominating and Awards. In addition, she served as an American NatRep to Mensa International and served on the International Mensa Name & Logo committee for many years. In 2001, she was honored with the Margot Award, the most prestigious award given for service to Mensa.
Darlene was a bright and caring person, dedicated to her family, her friends and her students. She will be missed by many.
